Hello. I tried to find the right area to post this but as my phone is not translating the forum to English I had a hard time trying to do so. Please move this to the appropriate area.

I have built single boxes for 4x Power Dynamics PD18PS subwoofers. They are 500w RMS @ 8 ohm.

I wish to run them in parallel, 2 per channel, so I can save money on my amplifier. My choices of amplifier are Citronoc PLX2800 or Citronic PLX3600.

Here comes my struggle. The 2800 outputs 1050w RMS per channel @ 4 ohms. This seems perfect as it's just above what my woofers need. However I have been told that I want decent headroom watts, for peaks and stuff like that. The 3600 outputs 1350w RMS per channel @ 4 ohms. This seems like too much, I don't want to underdrive my subs nor do I want to blow them. There is only $100 difference between the two amplifiers

Can someone help me? What do I choose? A reason why would be amazing as well.

Thanks in advance.

P.S: I know my equipment is not very good quality, it is the most I can afford on my budget.

I'm driving my speakers with 4x times nominal power of speakers, and seems to work fine since years, with limiter.
I recommend minimum 2x times nominal power of speaker, to be able to achieve nominal power without distortions.

My budget is tight. My other option would be to buy 2x PLX2800 instead of 1x PLX3600, but that is $1700 vs $950...

When you said 2x power with a limiter, how would that work?

I have a DBx Driverack PA that I am still learning to use. If that could work?

yes the driverack would work. Just set the limmiter so the amps never clip.

99% percent of the blown speakers are due to distortion caused by a clipping amp, not overpowering.

So regardless of the quality of the drivers... In a pro world it would be ideal to use 2x plx2800 for the 4 woofers? Is it a bad idea to use one plx3600 for the 4 woofers?

- 1pcs of plx3600 is low cost solution; where limiting factor is amplifier; headroom is too low, system dynamics is affected; you are running amplifier at maximum power;

- 2x plx2800 is recommanded(~2x RMS power of drivers) or even better 2x plx3600.

Do not forget to set the driver rack limiter to avoid amplifier clipping.

So it is okay to buy 1x PLX3600 now (I have a friend's party in one month) and run the system at 75% total volume with the amplifier at max power?

Then in another month or two when I can afford I will buy second amplifier.

Another question. What would be louder? 4 subs at max volume with perfect headroom - or 8 subs at 75% volume with marginal headroom?

Trying to get the most bang for buck here. I am on a minimum wage job and build the boxes in my spare time lol. Trying to start a rental company with this...

This is my demo sub with my twin 12" on top. Sub is 16mm particle board but will change to 18mm mixed hardwood plywood before the first event. call this sub "Harda Audio B18-500" and the top "Harda Audio T12D-400"

I will be using 2x twin 12s and 4x single 18 for the party in one month. Hope it will be enough for 100-200 people.

Well...
8 sub's underpowered will have +3 db more than 4sub's(with right amplification), but you need more space to stock/transport them.
In any case described below, if you put subwofers in one corner you will get gain of +9dB.

You mean stack the boxes in a corner of a room instead of in line along a wall?? Could you describe more? I love little tricks like that :)

- subwoofer on the floor(or any other wall) -> +3dB
- subwofer on the floor and near to one wall -> +6dB
- subwofer in corner -> +9dB
