Hiya guys,

I know that not everyone will want to beable to fly the speakers once they are built but maybe this is something to take into consideration, i think we need to make sure that the construction of the speakers is strong enough for the possiblity to be there if wanted also do any of you guys know what the laws/insurance guidlines are when it comes to flying speakers that have been home built do they have to forgoe any weight testing etc.

Chrz guys

Mark

maybe a steel frame should be built into the speaker.

I am going to do exactly that with my next project

Well, flying needs some serious thought. A single box or row of boxes isn't too hard provided the boxes are light - aeroquip works for this and it's possible to overdesign all the associated rigging without much trouble. Load-tested custom steels are easy to get etc.

For heavier boxes or multiple rows then the only option avoiding serious design knowledge, full load testing of enclosures etc. is to use this: http://www.adamhall.com/sidd7cb82d2ed3c ... tID=874305
These are the old MAN 4" studs (and the associated plates) and they are excellent because the enclosure is not part of the rigging system. Getting a bumper to hang off is not so easy though if there's not a convenient truss in the right place that can be used instead - the simplest cheat is to make the box dimensionally similar in fitting location to something that uses the MAN transformer flying bars (d&b c4/c7, wavefront 8 etc.) and then "standard" bars and drop chains can be hired in when required. Alternatively custom rigging can be designed, but it's not an amateur job and won't be cheap.

I'd say don't particularly worry about flying for now, if the box is good enough then a "F" version using MAN plates would be do-able later on. I would have thought only pro users would be seriously interested in that anyway.

dont use MAN-Plates, far too expensive. rather take the aeroquip.
is a steelframe necessary?
